Power To Face Your Giants

On my last post, i talked about belonging to something bigger than ourselves. But, when we begin to work for God, Satan is going to do everything and anything to get in our way. That’s why on this post i decided to talk about facing the giants that Satan sends your way. We will be reading out of 1 Samuel 17 and will be skipping around in the verses.

What are the giants that you are facing today?

  • Unemployment
  • Debt
  • Diseases
  • Depression
  • Abuse
  • Addiction
  • Temptations

Can you hear those giants shouting?

  • You are not good enough!
  • You can’t pay your bills!
  • You can’t refuse pornography!
  • You can’t shake your past failures!
  • You don’t have a bright future!
  • Your life is a mistake!

David taught us how we can defeat out giants. We have to stand up now and face your giants by the same tactics that God has given to David!

  • To say goodbye
  • To know the weapons that God prepares for us
  • To join the battlefield called life
  • To cut off the enemies

I. PLUG IN TO THE SOURCE OF POWER

David said moreover, The Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the Lord be with thee.”

-1 Samuel 17:37 KJV

David did not say the he delivered his flocks from the lion and bear. But he Said, “THE LORD WHO DELIVERED ME”. The Lord is the source of David’s power. Lets relate: All our electronics appliances will be useless unless connected to the source of electrical power. Our life is also useless if not connected to the source of our power no other than God.

God’s people in the bible had been empowered by God in many ways and for many reasons

The Empowerment of David:

1 Samuel 18:14 – everything he did he had great success, because the LORD was with him.

The Empowerment of Christians:

Act 1:8 – “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

II. CHOOSE THE RIGHT WEAPONS

David went to a small creek and picked up 5 stones to use against Goliath with his sling. We as christians also have 5 stones to use to defeat our giants

1. The Stone of The PAST

1 Chronicles 16:12 Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,

2. The Stone of PRAYER

Psalms 57:1 Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in you my soul takes refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.

3. The Stone of PRIORITY

1 Samuel 17:47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD’S, and He will give you into our hands.”

4. The Stone of PASSION

1 Samuel 17:32 And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine

5. The Stone of PERSISTENCE

Why did David picked up 5 stones? One prayer might not be enough. One apology might not do it. You may get knocked down a time or two…but don’t quit. Keep loading the rocks. Keep swinging the sling.

III. KEEP YOUR EYES FOCUSED

“All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

1 Samuel 17:47 KJV

Do not be disturbed by the giant

1 Samuel 17:45 – “David said to the Philistine, You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”

Do not be discouraged by the detractors

1 Samuel 17:30 – ‘He then turned away to someone else and brought up the same matter, and the men answered him as before.”

Focus on God

1 Samuel 17:37 – “The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine….”

Listing hurts won’t heal them. Itemizing problems won’t solve them. Categorizing rejections won’t remove them. David removed the giant because he emphasized THE LORD!

IV. CUT OFF THE ENEMY

  • Cut off evil communications
  • Cut off bad habits
  • Cut off pornography
  • Cut off dishonesty

The sooner we can, THE BETTER!

The next time your giants shout, you know what to do
Plug in to the source of power
Choose the right weapons
Keep your eyes focused
Cut off the enemy
